To escape the foul eastern April weather, we visited Victoria, British Columbia's gem of a capital, the "City of Gardens." Blessed with Canada's mildest climate, the lush gardens remarkably bloom there year-round and, to rub it in, the city boasts 1,000 signature flower  baskets gracing downtown lampposts.

Allotment Gardens – This is a garden plot, on public or private land, operated by member gardeners that is used to produce food, flowers and ornamental  plants, edible berries and food perennials.  The food that is produced is mainly for the use of gardeners.

Community Orchard – This is a grove of fruit or nut trees in a public park where a community group participates in the care, maintenance and harvesting of trees. The food that is produced is then shared with the community.
