A NIGHTMARE FAIRY TALE
“His heart was full of tears as he went out into the countryside. He carried with him his shepherd's stick on his shoulder, sobbing all the time: "Grieve, grieve, O countryside, grieve! O marshes, cry out! “ When in ancient times the shepherd lay down, he lay down to dream. He woke up -- it was a dream! (Dumuzid's dream-Dumuzid the Shepperd 2900BC)
In August 2010 Els Dietvorst moved from an urban context, Brussels, to Wexford, a rural hamlet in southern Ireland. As shepherdess she is closer to nature and is facing "death" as an active and overwhelming strength.
The exhibition One Was Killed for Beauty, the Other One Was Shot, the 2 Others Died Naturally with three installations brings in a fairytale way these issues into focus and draws the viewer into a universe of beauty, destruction and death.
